Relegation Suspended
So the Competition Committe has met, discussed, and decided that for this season there will be no relegation.
Here's what happened. Brett, the steadfast manager of System 3loc, accidentally accepted the wrong challenge for next week. Since national cup matches are starting the week following, we have no window to make up the match. Brett admitted his mistake right away, and we do of course believe this was an honest mistake.
In theory, we could have relegated Brett for the mistake as the loser of the match by default. But given the fact that System is a charter team of the B-Cup, and that Brett has always been an active and engaged manager, relegation seems like an overly harsh punishment for an honest error.
Bottom line is that we are going to forego relegation altogether for this season because that seems to us to be the Most Fair result. We are also going to reconsider whether to keep the relegation rule at all. We first introduced it in order to put more energy into the DLI, and also try to accomodate other teams that were eager to play, and to vary the gene pool a bit. If you have an opinion on whether or not to keep the rule, please let me know via comment here, HT mail or regular email.
Oh and one more thing: GO BROOKLYN FC!

Cheers Boydy and all.
I would have missed you guys!
These past few BC seasons have been affected by my push to go up to UK Div IV, but now that this is achieved, I look to enter a stronger side next season.
So watch out all!
:)
I am happy that Brett (an English team) has not been relegated from the BC but, to be honest, it hardly seems fair to the Presidents.
Even worse is that the "Competition Committe" (didn't know we had one) are considering dropping the relegation rule entirely!
I'm not going to accuse anyone of anything underhand but, you must admit, it doesn't look entirely Kosher.
Claus, you are absolutely right. Much as I would hate to see Brett... or any of us... be dropped for a season, 'the right thing' in this situation is to allow Anfield and 3loc to play off for the right to remain in the cup next season.
Sorry, Brett, but the rule was put in place for more than just the removal of Presidents from the BCup. We need to stick to the rules and not change them depending on who is up for relegation.
I would be gutted to be out of the cup for a season but we all knew the risks of coming last.
I have no problem playing Anfield when we're both out.
Let's get it on.
Is this the normal rule?
I don't want to put anyone out, and if it's causing a rift, then, lets have a playoff!
:)
I don't think it's a rift, Buddy, but Claus is right that other teams have waited patiently to get into our cup. It does seem a little off that one team has been lost to us from relegation yet the very next team to suffer the same fate is let off the hook.
I'm sure that if there were not any other teams waiting in the wings then noone would bat an eye at you being kept on. As much as I would hate to see a fellow English team get relegated Anfield has been keen to get on board and should, imho, be allowed his shot at glory.
"Speaking from my perspective only:"
That's the one that truely counts, mate ;)
"You all have to admit that there are different levels of importance in this tournament. Losing someone like System is a COMPLETELY different matter than losing someone like Presidents"
No argument here but, at the same time, who decides who is more important than whom? If you, Scott, are the final arbiter then fair enough, this is your 'baby' after all and I will be happy for you to fill that role.
"Given that, IF Anfield wants in, then we should have a play-in game. In fact, we should have a play-in series (home and home, total goals) if time permits."
That would seem to be the fairest way to do this.
"We should also figure out the long-term status of relegation"
I fully support relegation and also agree that we need to sort out a formal system to account for it. I have a few ideas but would not presume to air them here at this time. I am sure a full discussion on this subject can be sorted out in the near future.
Cheers for your input on this matter, Scott.
